In Lahore and other cities of Pakistan all telecommunication companies are planning to introduce a bio-metric system of issuing a new SIM card.

The deadline of 20 Dec to all Operators in Pakistan has been given by The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to introduce the biometric system in Pakistan, but not in Karachi for Karachi Nov 30 is Last Date. Telenor, Zong, Warid, Ufone, Jazz, all operators have arrangements to meet the deadline.

“To meet the deadline and foolproof biometric system all five operators have agreed to complete their duty in all Pakistan within given time,” a PTA spokesman told on Thursday. He said that, a thumb impression of the applicant and latest verification by the NADRA is required for a new SIM.

A spokesperson of Ufone said that, Nov 30 for the city Karachi and Dec 20 for all other Customer service centers and franchise in Pakistan is not enough to get 100% result.

Estimated cost for 70,000 to 75,000 retail points in whole the country is Rs.2.8 billion.

            In a SIM verification system 667 that was introduced by PTA in 2008. The original CNIC and a thumb print of customer were required to get a new SIM. Another verification system 668 was introduced in 2009 by PTA. This system told that, how many SIMs is issued against one CNIC. The user has power to block a SIM that is not in use.

            The 789 system that was introduced in same year is very useful for issuing a new SIM card. In this system customer answer a few questions like mother’s name and birth place that is recorded in NADRA at the time of issuing the CNIC of that user.

            Both systems 668 and 789 would remain after the launching the biometric verification system according to PTA.
